Leaning tower of Pisa

To do the restoration of the exterior marble surfaces of the leaning tower of Pisa¸ it was necessary to design, calculate and verify a structural scaffold. To leave the tower visible during the restoration, we opted for a solution cantilevered from the tower. The restoration site was developed for horizontal bands corresponding to the various orders of the tower; using a light structure. A scaffold structure was designed in aluminum alloy UNI 7020, cantilevered from the same order affected by restoration. The shift of order was carried out disassembling and reassembling the same elements on the next order, with the help of straps. The displacement of the scaffold was carried out by a firm, Aeredile, specialized in aerial work.
